SILC Director, Sue Marriott has been made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the 2012 Australia Day Honours for her services to conservation and the environment through the Secretariat for International Landcare, particularly the development of programs dealing with climate change and rural land management.
A shocked Mrs Marriott said she had no idea she would be recognised in such a way.
“I’m just hanging on a lot of coat-tails, I can tell you,” she said.
“It’s great for International Landcare if it gets a little more recognition it isn’t about aid, it’s helping people get the skills to help themselves.”
“It will go on as long as the world goes on.”
Australian Landcare is based on local community groups working together to improve the conservation values and productive resources of their area.
Sue will receive her award and Order of Australia medal at a ceremony, on Friday 20th April, at Government House in Melbourne.
